Module 3 Objectives

As we know, a key feature of the CEPNET approach and its methodology that you are studying is that the students are involved in a process that is leading them to take action. Through Phase 1, they have already discussed and debated the issues, before finding their specific interest. Through Phase 2, you have guided them to take this interest into a world of research so that they can find out something new. They may have carried out this research with a group of friends or on their own. They may have been involved in interviews or surveys with members of the school community or the wider area. They may have developed their research results into a report or a poster or a video. You have got them to this place where they now know gathered lots of new pieces of information and turned them into an artefact or series of research outputs.

Here, some of our teachers explain why this Phase 3 work is so important.

The objective of this module is to look at how we get them from here to a position where they can take these results and shape this learning into a presentation or a way of sharing, letting people know about their wonderful new nuggets of knowledge. We know from our experience that the sky is the limit when it comes to how they might do this. We have had students in different countries reaching out to ministers and getting an audience with them, receiving other political responses by letter, as well as encouragement from these sources about their work. Students have also been invited to visit parliament and the national debating chambers. We have had students develop petitions and create murals. We have children link in with their sports teams, including major football clubs.

We want to use this module to help you to look at our experiences so that you can in turn facilitate your own class to make the most of what they have learnt in their research work. As with our other modules, we have examples, stories, and testimonies from all partners that can assist you with this key phase of the approach.

Our children love the idea of taking action and sharing their new ideas. The objective of this module is that you can meld your prior experiences of raising the voices of your students and linking it to our CEPNET learning.
