Consolidation and Reflection

Before we look to summarise the main learning points and ask you to reflect on this module, it is no harm to think about some troubleshooting and to consider what to do if things are not going to plan.

Overall, during the Phase 1 of CEPNET, there will be times when children are less interested and/or involved. You as the teacher know your children best and will know whether to postpone the session or address the non-participation or challenges from some of the children. When discussing this aspect of the project, we asked our teachers to think about the idea of a non-supportive group or class and how they might have handled them. The following pointers were made:

  • Be honest / level with them.
  • Try to have clear open discussion about the issue – inviting solutions from the group
  • Refer to the ground rules and agree again so that there is a clear contract and set of expectations
  • Try not to take any challenges personally
  • Perhaps there are some underlying issues – gather information on this
  • Make sure that they get CEPNET and it is clear that we expect participation by all the children
  • Remain calm
  • Accept and know your group
  • Use humour
  • Identify key strengths within the classroom
  • Try to understand and consult

See how many of the key points that you can remember from this module. Start by listening to one of our expert teachers. She reminds you of one of our main principles that within CEPNET,

“You are no longer a teacher, you are a coach…”
